Anna and Harold Paige Scholarship Awarded to Two MCPS Students

Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School awarded a full tuition scholarship to two students in May. The Anna and Harold Paige Scholarship was established in 2013 by a generous donation to Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School by the estate of Anna and Harold Paige; who were faithful members of St. Bede the Venerable Catholic Church.  The Anna and Harold Paige Scholarship is an annual, non-denominational scholarship to be awarded to one Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School High School student and one St. Bede Elementary Campus student. The two students that received this award both demonstrate good moral character and leadership qualities.  The first recipients of the Anna and Harold Paige Scholarship are Blake Johnson a rising sophomore and Angela Gier a rising fifth grade student at  Montgomery Catholic's St. Bede campus. Blake is the son of Michelle and Bruce Johnson of Prattville, Alabama. Angela is the daughter of Karla and Paul Gier of Montgomery, Alabama.

MCPS Sixth Grader Awarded the First Richard and Barabra Brienza Scholarship from the Knights of Columbus #12150

Gabriel McBeal, a sixth grade student at Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School's Holy Spirit Campus, was awarded the Richard and Barabara Brienza Scholarship to go towards tuition at MCPS from Jason Nguyen, Grand Knight, Knights of Columbus Council #12150. This is the first scholarship award granted to a student at the new MCPS elementary campus at Holy Spirit. The Knights of Columbus are dedicated to promoting Catholic education and this scholarship will help students continue their education at MCPS in Middle School. Gabriel was chosen by the Knights of Columbus to receive this award because of his academic efforts and his involvement with the school, his community and his home.  

Gabriel received the scholarship at the MCPS honors assembly held on May 24, 2013 in the Holy Spirit Church Parish Hall.  He was also the recipient of the "Best Woodwind" award for the MCPS Beginning Band.  Gabriel is the son of Mitch and Evangelene McBeal.  

Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School Sixth Grader Wins Humane Society Poster Contest

On Monday, May 13, Mary Hughes with the Montgomery Humane Society made a visit to the Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School St. Bede campus with exciting news. Sixth grade student Ricky Treloar had entered the Humane Society's poster contest in honor of National Be Kind to Animals Week at the encouragement of his teacher Mrs. Lori Riggles.  His poster was one of 160+ posters submitted in the contest. First, second, third and honorable mentions were given.  Ricky was presented the prize for first place at a school assembly in the school cafeteria. Ricky's parents Teresa and Greg Treloar along with his second grade sister Amy were also at the assembly with Ricky as his poster was displayed for the school and  he received the $100 cash prize, and a medal for his poster.  The poster will be framed and will hang in the Humane Society lobby.

Zach Van Alst and Kylie Frank selected as Coach Tim Turner Memorial Award Winners


Zach Van Alst and Kylie Frank were selected for the Coach Tim Turner Memorial Award for excellence in Middle School athletics at Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School. The award is selected by the Montgomery Catholic Athletic Booster Club and is given to a male and female eighth grade student for excellence in athletics, sportsmanship, leadership, and academics.

Mr. Travis Jarome, Montgomery Catholic Athletic Director, presented the award after the Eighth Grade Completion Mass on May 23, 2013 at the Church of the Holy Spirit.

Both students claimed state titles in their sports this year. Van Alst is the Class 3A AHSAA 106 pound Wrestling State Champion and an All-American. Frank claimed 2 State Championships in Track & Field this spring in the 1600 with a new state record and in the 400 meter dash. 

The award is named in honor of the late Coach Tim Turner who valiantly coached several MCPS Middle School sports teams while bravely battling a terminal illness.

Congratulations Class of 2013, 138th Graduating Class of Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School


Montgomery Catholic's 138th Commencement Exercises took place in an outdoor ceremony on the grounds of the Athletic Complex at the Vaughn Road Campus.

Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi, Superintendent of Education Gwen Byrd, Montgomery Catholic President Anne Ceasar, and High School Principal Chad Barwick were joined by Father David Carucci, Father Patrick Driscoll '84,   Father Pat Arensberg, Deacon Jim Labadie, Father Linn Harbour and Father Michael Ssenfuma from Uganda as the special guests of the class. Salutatorian Jarrett Mason and Valedictorian Zachary Hulcher addressed their fellow graduates, special guests, family and friends. Members of the junior class hosted the graduates and their families at a reception in the Dolly Barranco Activity Center following the ceremony.
