Congratulations to Aly Vazquez as Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School's top speller at our St. Bede Campus. Aly will represent Montgomery Catholic at the Montgomery County Spelling Bee in February. Aly, a sixth grade student, won the bee by correctly spelling "feverishly". Henry Petters, a fifth grade student, will serve as our alternate delegate for the Montgomery County Spelling Bee.
Competing in the Montgomery Catholic spelling bee at St. Bede were fourth grade students Grace Leslie, Ben Koepele, Zoe Rutland, Jean Stephenson, Emily Claire Talbot, and Reagan Herbek. Fifth grade students were Henry Petters, Annabel Starrett, Trinity Carter, and Ryne Herbek. Sixth grade students were Madison Gaston, Morris Lottinger, Adam Bristol, and Aly Vazquez.

Happy 100th Day of School!
Kindergarten students in Mrs. Redden's classroom celebrated the 100th day of school by doing everything the 100 way! The students enjoyed 100 pieces of snacks, put 100 caps on a paper tree and a 100 dots on a paper ladybug. The students also made hats with 100 dots and necklaces with a 100 fruit loops and ate a cookie cake with 100 M&M's on it as part of their snack as well. It was a great day!

Montgomery Catholic Students Participate in Honor Band Festival at Troy University
Seven Middle School Band members from Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School travelled to Troy , AL to take part in Troy University ’s Southeastern United States Middle School Honor Bands. These seven students completed an application process and were selected from a large body of applicants from Alabama , Georgia , and Florida . After being accepted, these young musicians auditioned for a spot in one of the event’s three performing ensembles: the Silver Band, the Cardinal Band, and the Gold Band. Brian Brunson was selected for the Silver Band, while Jennifer Doan, Jonathan Miller, and Beth Vaughan were selected for the Cardinal Band. Ashley Kim, Mandy Jones, and Katie McDaniel all received exceptionally high audition scores and were accepted to the festival’s top ensemble, the Gold Band. Congratulations to all of these students on this prestigious achievement!

Cotter Wins Julian McPhillips Title
Montgomery Catholic senior Corey Cotter won the 140-pound weight class in the 14th annual Julian McPhillips wrestling tournament Saturday at St. James School. Cotter defeated Jonathan Boston of Holtville 3-2 in the finals. Cotter's win is the first for a Catholic wrestler in the McPhillips tournament. McPhillips helped start the wrestling programs at St. James and Catholic.

Montgomery Catholic Art Students Sweep AL National Fair Competition
Three high school art students at Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School swept the competition at the 57th annual Alabama National Fair competition. Senior Emily Starr won first place in the Overall Youth Art category for her Lion fish watercolor, first, second, and third place in the Pastels category, and Honorable Mention in the Acrylic category. Tyler Parrish, a junior, won first place for his Etching piece. Migyn Kim, a freshman, won second place for her watercolor and the overall award in the Creative Living Center. Middle and high school Art classes at Montgomery Catholic are taught by Ms. Joane Grant.

Montgomery Catholic Basketball Works With Inner City Evangelism
The Montgomery Catholic Varsity boys basketball team volunteered with the Inner City Evangelism (ICE) during their Christmas celebration at the Gibbs Village Community Center. Inner City Evangelism is a community outreach program which seeks to bring the gospel of Jesus Christ to others through hope, joy, peace, food, shelter, love and so much more to communities in the Montgomery area. Catholic's varsity boys basketball team assisted with arts and craft projects, led games of kickball, enjoyed pizza from Cheezie's Pizza, and played several rounds of basketball with the adults and children at Gibbs Village before traveling to Verbena to participate in the Verbena Christmas Tournament.
