Three Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School students soar toward the highest rank attainable with the Boy Scouts of America, the Eagle Scout Award. Recent graduate Michael Jones and senior John Petters were awarded the honor of Eagle Scout over the summer. Sophomore Josh Stark is currently working on his Eagle Award. The honor of Eagle Scout is a title which is held for life, "Once an Eagle, always an Eagle."Requirements for the Eagle award include earning at least 21 merit badges and demonstrating scout spirit, service, and leadership. This includes an extensive service project that the Scout plans, organizes, leads, and manages. Eagle Scouts are presented with a medal and a badge that visibly recognizes their accomplishments.
Michael Jones, a 2009 Montgomery Catholic graduate, earned his Eagle Scout award by creating a memorial garden around the flagpole on the front lawn of Montgomery Catholic's Middle and High School Campus. Michael is a freshman at Auburn University.
John Petter's Eagle project included several housekeeping chores in the gardens at Seaton Haven. Broken concrete was replaced, sidewalk railing was restored, a prayer garden was refurbished, and the garden was cleaned of overgrown weeds/bush. John's Eagle Award was formally presented in July 09. Petters continues to serve Troop 4 as an assistant ScoutMaster.
Josh Stark's Eagle service project was the design and construction of Reading Lofts for all three of the Kindergarten classrooms at Montgomery Catholic's St Bede Campus. Joshua worked tirelessly ALL summer long to get the lofts completed before school began. The lofts are 4 foot by 6 foot, with a fully carpeted "upstairs" and full staircase with handrails. Funding was provided by by generous donations from Knights of Columbus Council's from St. Bede council # 893, Holy Spirit council #12150 and St. Bede PTC.
