Bach Winner of "Be Kind to Animals" Poster Contest

Ivy Bach, a fifth grade student at Montgomery Catholic's St. Bede Campus, is the winner of the "Be Kind to Animals" poster contest held by the Montgomery Humane Society in honor of National Be Kind to Animals Week. Bach's artistic depiction of all types of animals and children playing harmoniously with a simple message of "Don't leave anyone out" was chosen from nearly 200 entries for the contest. Mary Hughes, the Humane Education Coordinator, presented Ivy with a special gift on behalf of the Montgomery Humane Society and her framed artwork will hang prominently in the Shelter's board room.

Montgomery Catholic Inducts 17 to Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (SHH)

On May 21, 2010, Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School inducted 17 high school students into the Salvador Dalí Chapter of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (Spanish National Honor Society).

The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (SHH) is an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish and Portuguese and is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. At present there are over 2,000 national and international chapters.
The purpose of the society is to recognize high achievement of high school students in the Spanish and Portuguese languages and to promote a continuing interest in Hispanic and Portuguese studies.

Students from Montgomery Catholic inducted for the 2009-2010 School year were:
Jessica Barranco, Barbara Bradley, Anisa Britt, Kyle Daniels, Hayden Ellis, Beverly Enriquez, Aidan Gilbert, Jessica Heymann, Soo Kim, Kelly MeGeehan, Nicole Miglionico, Kevin Norris,
Wheeler Ronan, Brooke Searcy, Lexie Segrest, Christine Spotswood, Josh Stark, and Taylor Wyatt. The SHH is sponsored by Señora Sara Campbell.

Kindergarten Studies the "Land Down Under"

Kindergarten students at Montgomery Catholic's St. Bede Campus have been studying all about Australia. They have learned about marsupials such as the possum, the koala, kangaroo and the Tasmanian devil. They have also studied about monotremes like the enchidna and platypus. Their favorite part has been sampling the different types of Australian food like Vegemite, scones, and fairy bread. While studying the Aboriginal culture, the students learned to make didgeridoos and boomerangs, all while keeping a journal about what they've learned.
