Van Alst Wraps Up Career at Catholic - 6 Time State Wrestling Champion, Undefeated

Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School senior Zachary Van Alst claimed his sixth consecutive Alabama High

School Athletic Association (AHSAA) wrestling state championship on Saturday, February 18 in Huntsville at the Von Braun Center, this year capturing the title in the Class 1A-5A, 138-pound weight class. Van Alst finished the 2017 season undefeated with an impressive record of 67-0, and finished his career as a Catholic Knight with a record of 300-12. 
To top it off, Van Alst became the third person in AHSAA history to accomplish six consecutive State wrestling titles, over the weekend.  In his six-year career at Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School, Van Alst has won five sectional titles to go along with his six state championships, while recording that impressive overall career record of  300-12 . 
He was joined in Huntsville by his teammates, freshmen Jack Burt at 132-pounds made his second appearance at a State meet and Jason Flowers made his State Tournament debut at 106 pounds. The Knights are coached by head coach Coy Hunter and assistant coach David Parker.

Zachary is the son of Jennifer and Bob Van Alst of Prattville. He has committed to wrestle for the Air Force Academy continuing his career at the next level.

Catholic Middle School Boys Named CCC Champions for Second Consecutive Year

Montgomery Catholic's Middle School boys' basketball team named CCC Champions for the second consecutive year after defeating Trinity in the final game of the season, 28-25. Congratulations to Coach Jared Grant and his young Middle School team.

Varsity Knights Basketball Sweep the Area

Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School Varsity Basketball - AHSAA Area Champions. Both Montgomery Catholic boys' and girls' varsity basketball teams secured the number one seeds in their area tournaments, allowing them to host both tournaments, giving the Knights the  home court advantage.

The Catholic varsity boys were 8-0 in area play and undefeated in CCC play, the first time in over 20 years Catholic has gone undefeated in CCC play. With an overall record of 17-9. Even more impressive is the season that the Lady Knights have had with a ending record of 22-3 for the 2016-2017 regular season, the Lady Knights are ranked 5th in the State.

A great atmosphere and hard fought games lead both teams to Area Championships held at home on February 10, 2017. The varsity girls defeated BTW 38-37 in a nail biter and and the varsity boys defeated LAMP 62-43. Tournament MVP's were Michaelyn Foster and B.J. Barker.


The Knights move to sub-regional play in Dothan on February 18.

Montgomery Catholic Middle School Top 3 at MathCounts


Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School competed in the MathCounts competition on Friday, February 3, 2017. Held at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Montgomery Catholic had eight students participate,  the MCPS team of Brian Povilus, Zach Izer, Sadie Bartels and Catherine Aaron, came in 3rd place in Montgomery, with their teammates Hall Triplett and Brian Povilus, who tied for 10th place.  Students Emily Riggles, James Yorton and Thea Haynes made up the rest of the Knights MathCounts team. The team sponsors were Mrs. Julie Flowers and Mrs. Tricette Savage
